" A visit to Stonetown is not complete without a stop at the Forodhani
Night Food Market at the waterfront location of Forodhani Gardens."
Forodhani
Open daily, dusk to midnight.
The Forodhani Gardens (also known as Jubilee Gardens and more recently as Forodhani Park) are a small park of the historical city of Stone Town, Zanzibar, Tanzania. The gardens are located along the main sea walk of Stone Town, just in front of the most famous buildings of Stone Town. Zanzibar
being a town with a strong historical background, it' s culture is seen
everywhere around the area.
This is no different to the Forodhani
gardens. The place is a popular tourist attraction because it merges
both Swahili and foreign cultures. Therefore makes visitors feel at home
by enabling them to share and learn different customs & history
with other people.
The Gardens are especially crowded after sunset, when tourists and local natives gather in a popular food street market in the main square, to
have dinner.
The Gardens are particularly clean and offer a friendly environment for one to relax and enjoy his/her time. The best features about the Forodhani market is the variety of swahili foods available, one has various choices with the food being sold. Sea food dominating more than the rest makes it humanly impossible to resist the aromatic smell of freshly grilled prawns, lobsters, calamari steaks, crabs etc And without forgetting the local sugar cane juice and the Zanzibari, fresh made pizza (our favourite). It’s probably the tastiest and most inexpensive street food you will ever enjoy in your life time.
A couple of other of interesting activities take place on these
gardens during night hours. Some people even like to take their time and
dive in the ocean.
You also get a chance to socialize with other people while enjoying the sight of Indian ocean's lapping waves at night.
Experience the best of Zanzibar by visiting the Forodhani Gardens.
