Drake was a no-show at the 2013 BET Awards even thought he lead the pack with a total of 12 nominations.
The Young Money rapper recently reached out to BET to explain his absence and apologize for missing the big show.
“The BET Awards are always a good time and I’m sorry I could not be
there to celebrate,” he said in a statement. “I’m in Toronto due to a
family matter but I have a lot of gratitude for BET and the fans.”
.
He added, “Getting 12 nominations and winning three awards just makes
me want to work that much harder. I’ll be in the studio finishing Nothing Was the Same — I look forward to bringing it to the fans on Would You Like a Tour in September."
Drake won awards for Video of the Year, Best Collaboration and
Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award, tying with the night’s other top winner
Kendrick Lamar.
Nothing Was the Same, the rapper’s third studio album, is due for a September 17th release.
