The
pan African entertainment initiative Night of A Thousand Laughs, Opa Williams
has said that the star attraction this year’s Kenyan edition is Comedian
Basketmouth.
The
event is scheduled for November 9th at the Carnivore Grounds in
Nairobi.
Williams
said, “This year is different. I want to make it
more of a Kenyan affair than a Nigerian or African one. It is for that reason
that I have already signed three Kenyan comedians and the artistes performing
are also from Kenya. This is the way of showing that comedy has developed
across Africa”.
The comedians consist of Chipkezeey,
Sleepy and Ayieya whereas the artistes that are set to perform are Mercy Myra,
Dela and DJ Fridah.
Nonetheless, Williams supported the lineup stating,
“ People ask me if I'm sure they can go on an international stage and hold
their own. My answer for them is, they have to get there to prove themselves.
Talent is talent, all you need to do is groom and nurture it”.
Williams added, “Look at
Eric Omondi. He has been with us for two years now and he is not the Eric I
knew back then. Before he was Eric the small Luo boy, we used to call him
Otieno, small Otieno. But he has been able to transcend the Kenyan stage and
now he is rated among the top 10 African comedians. Now, Night Of A Thousand
Laughs want to bring in more talent onto that stage”.
The gate charges for the one night event are Sh 2,000 normal
tickets, Shs 5,000 VIP and Sh 105,000 for corporate tables.
