In a recent
interview he appeared the Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show, the music legend
revealed that him and partner David Furish are to be married.
In a guest
appearance on the “Jimmy Kimmel’s live!” to promote his new album “ The Diving
Board”. The legendary singer, Elton John
revealed that him and David are going to tie the knot next year. The
entertainer and his film partner are in a civil partnership they entered into
in England back in 2005, after beginning their relationship in 1993.
While speaking
to Kimmel, when the late night show asked him if would take the advantage of
the new law that the English parliament recently passed to legalize same
sex-marriage “Yeah, we will do next May when it comes out, If
the laws are gonna help us again, as a famous gay couple we will do it. It’s
our duty to do it to make sure everyone knows that this is something that’s a
gift that we never dreamed we’d ever get”.
For a gay couple, Elton said that “30, 40 years
ago” it was difficult even to just “come out of the closet,” so for them to
finally have the rights to legally marry is something that is definitely long
awaited. He went on to say that although at first he thought his civil
partnership with Furnish would not make much of a difference on their
relationship, in fact it really helped because of the commitment”.
The couple have two children together born to
a surrogate mother, born less than three years apart. John continues to be a massive supporter of
same sex marriage and the LGBT community and is even going to be performing in
Russia this December despite the country’s anti- gay legislation.
