Tanzanian supermodel Flaviana Matata has come a long way from growing up in a single parent household after her mother died in a tragic ferry boat accident. She studied electrical engineering until starting her fairytale story by winning the Miss Universe Tanzania title in 2007.

Since then, she was discovered by Russell Simmons in NY while attending a charity event. With his help, she would go on to secure many high profile modeling contracts.
Matata has strut her stuff on runways for the likes of Tommy Hilfiger, Jason Wu,
Vivienne Westwood, Tory Burch, and Charlotte Ronson.
More recently, she's been featured in stunning photoshoots in Marie Claire and D Magazine Italy and shot by world renowned photographer Albert Marashi.
In addition to becoming a household face in the modeling industry, Matata is highly active in her own non-profit foundation, as well as other charitable organizations.
